Data Export, Minor Bug Fixes, Settings, The Short Road Ahead

Today we launch a small new function that allows users to export all their saved goal data to CSV format.

We also added some more account info on your “Settings” page. You can now see when you signed up and when your premium account with expire, if you have a premium account.

Made some bug fixes to the twitter and tumblr feeds on the top page.

We are currently working on a large upgrade to our COMMUNITIES. New features will include:

Ability for a user to create a group and accept/decline members
Ability to invite users to join a group
Ability to make your goals visible to a particular group only
Ability for the group’s news feed to be visible only to group members
Ability for list of group’s members to only be visible to group members
Ability for group’s posts to only be visible to group members
Ability to have different settings for different groups (i.e. I will display my weight goal in group x, but I will hide it in group y)
Ability to make your profile visible to a group
Ability for entire group to only be visible by invitation
Email notification for group members of things occurring in group, customizable (i.e. daily, weekly, etc)

After successful implementation to the above, we are planning on more API integration for:

FITBIT (refer to www.fitbit.com)
WITHINGS (refer to www.withings.com)

42goals.com Moves to New Hosting Company

We are pleased to announce that as of Apr 16, 2012, 42goals is hosted by @Softlayer (www.softlayer.com). We are hosted in their Washington, DC data center. We also upgraded our servers so hopefully you’ll notice the improvements! The new server also allows us to quickly scale up without any down time (in theory!).

42goals Suffers Approx 2 Hour Outage

Sunday, April 15th

Due to DNS problems, 42goals.com suffered a short outage of approximately 2 hours on April 15 between approximately 0700hrs and 0900hrs GMT. 42goals.com was planning to migrate to a new server & provider sometime later in April; the announcement was to be made later this month. Unfortunately, due to some unfortunate DNS errors during the preparation of the migration, it was much easier to commit immediately to migrate the server & provider than to roll-back existing DNS errors.

Our apologies for the inconvenience caused. The website will continue to be monitored.

a) Can the percentages be expressed as percentages instead of decimals?
For example "80%" instead of ".8"
This should be simple but it makes things far easier for the average person by eliminating the need to mentally covert .8 into 80%.

3. Can you total everything as a global percentage for all goals in a set for a defined time period?
For example, instead of only having 30% of goal A, 70% of goal B and 80% of goal C cumulative for the week, there would be an additional column which simply says "avg. of all goals for the week = 60%"

Good questions and comments:

1. Ahhhhh, hmmmm, I think I will keep that a secret for now :-) Any guesses?

2 & 3. Will add that to the list of new functionality to add. We are trying to gather comments from others concerning additional functionality so if you have other ideas, would be pleased to hear from you.

Thanks for the request. We are planning some new features and would certainly like to hear from everyone what they would like to see. I ran through twiitter, facebook, satisfaction, etc and see these:

1. Export and import functionality of goals

2. move goals to different tabs without having to recreate the goal

3. define the start day of the week.

Above is in no particular order though. We would like to hear from anyone else who has some suggestions. We will try to announce our roadmap then for the next few months back to you!

42goals acquired

Hi everyone!

I am excited to announce you that 42goals has been acquired by Richard S, a VC and entrepreneur from Tokyo, who has a particular interest in webdev and technology.

What does it mean for 42goals users? The project will run as usually, it will be just a new team of developers who will stay behind the curtains maintaining the service. Richard has clear plans to add new features and functionality long awaited since the last update.

I would like to thank all of you for it was really fun to run this project. In any case, I am not saying goodbye. I will be maintaining the project for until the new team gets over it and make sure the transition goes smoothly. Also, I am an active user of 42goals and you can follow me on my personal page checking how my PhD thesis goes ;)
